How This Zoysia Overseeding Calculator Works
This tool transforms on-site measurements and horticultural assumptions into a practical overseeding plan for Zoysia lawns.
Start by quantifying area. You can add multiple rectangular sections for simple spaces and trace polygons on the map for
curved or irregular boundaries. The calculator converts every input to square feet, then combines section totals with
optional map polygons to form one working area. Accurate area measurement drives everything that follows.
Next, choose your seeding purpose (overseeding thin turf versus new establishment) and a Zoysia cultivar, such as
Zenith, Meyer, EMPIRE, El Toro, or Zeon. Each cultivar–purpose pair auto-populates a conservative seeding rate in pounds
per 1,000 square feet. You may refine that rate to match label guidance. The core formula calculates base pounds
as: rate × (total area ÷ 1,000).
Because labeled bags list a germination percentage, the calculator adjusts for Pure Live Seed by dividing
base pounds by the germination fraction. For example, if germination is 85%, required seed increases by approximately
