Sprayed Coating Removal Calculator

Remove coatings confidently with area and thickness inputs. Get waste, hours, and costs instantly all. Export reports for estimators, crews, and project files easily.

Inputs

Enter project quantities and rates. Mixed units are supported; results normalize to metric.

Examples: $, €, £, Rs
1 mil = 0.0254 mm
Used to estimate waste mass for disposal.
Extra thickness/overbreak, collection loss, rework.
Adds time for access, masking, cleaning, controls.
Use net rate for the chosen removal method.
Media, blades, filters, PPE, bags, etc.
Optional allowance for special handling/monitoring.

Example Data

Use these sample values to test calculations and validate your workflow.

Scenario Area Thickness Density Productivity Waste Containment Labor Equipment Disposal
Interior beam coating 120 m² 3.0 mm 1100 kg/m³ 18 m²/hr 8% 12% 22/hr 15/hr 90/tonne
High access wall coating 200 m² 2.0 mm 950 kg/m³ 12 m²/hr 10% 20% 28/hr 22/hr 120/tonne
Light coating touch-up removal 75 m² 1.0 mm 1000 kg/m³ 25 m²/hr 5% 8% 20/hr 10/hr 70/tonne
Rates are illustrative. Replace with site-specific quotations and measured productivity.

Formula Used

1) Normalize units

  • Area: ft² → m² using m² = ft² / 10.7639
  • Thickness: mils → mm using mm = mils × 0.0254, then mm → m using m = mm / 1000
  • Density: lb/ft³ → kg/m³ using kg/m³ = lb/ft³ × 16.01846

2) Removal volume

Volume (m³) = Area (m²) × Thickness (m) × (1 + Waste%/100)

3) Waste mass for disposal

Mass (kg) = Volume (m³) × Density (kg/m³)
Mass (t) = Mass (kg) / 1000

4) Time and costs

  • Hours = (Area (m²) / Productivity (m²/hr)) × (1 + Containment%/100)
  • Labor Cost = Hours × Labor Rate
  • Equipment Cost = Hours × Equipment Rate
  • Consumables Cost = Area (m²) × Consumables per m²
  • Disposal Cost = Mass (t) × Disposal Rate (per tonne)
  • Hazard Cost = Area (m²) × Hazard Surcharge per m²
  • Subtotal = Sum of all costs
  • Overhead & Profit = Subtotal × (O&P%/100)
  • Total = Subtotal + Overhead & Profit
  • Unit Cost = Total / Area (m²)
This is an estimating model. Always verify hazardous waste rules, sampling requirements, and disposal classifications before procurement.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Measure the coated surface area and choose the correct area unit.
  2. Enter the average coating thickness. Use spot checks and take an average.
  3. Set density based on product data or test samples for accuracy.
  4. Adjust waste factor for overbreak, access losses, and collection method.
  5. Enter productivity from past work, vendor data, or a pilot test.
  6. Fill in labor, equipment, consumables, and disposal rates from quotes.
  7. Add a hazard surcharge only when extra controls are required.
  8. Press Calculate to see results above the form.
  9. Use the download buttons to export a CSV or a PDF report.
