Calculator
Use this tool to split a total into percentage shares, or derive percentages from raw values.
Example data table
A common data science split uses 70/20/10 for training, validation, and testing.
| Dataset partition | Percent | Total samples | Allocated samples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Training | 70% | 10,000 | 7,000 |
| Validation | 20% | 10,000 | 2,000 |
| Test | 10% | 10,000 | 1,000 |
Formula used
- Split a total by percentages: Amounti = Total × (Percenti ÷ 100).
- Percent from values: Percenti = (Valuei ÷ ΣValue) × 100.
- Largest remainder rounding: round down to decimals, then distribute leftover units by largest fractional remainders to preserve the total.
How to use this calculator
- Select a mode: split a total, or compute percentages.
- Add items, then fill either Percent or Value inputs.
- Choose decimals and a rounding method for your output.
- Submit to see results displayed above the form.
- Download CSV or PDF to share or archive results.
Notes for data workflows
For dataset partitioning, strict 100% rules reduce leakage risk. Auto-normalization helps when you enter rough weights. Largest remainder rounding is best when totals must match exactly.
