Formula used
Line subtotal = Unit price × Quantity
Discount amount = Line subtotal × Discount percentage
Products after discount = Line subtotal − Discount amount
Taxable base = Taxable products + taxable shipping and fees + taxable duty
VAT added = Taxable base × VAT rate
Gross total = Net total + VAT
VAT extracted from a gross amount = Gross taxable value − (Gross taxable value ÷ (1 + VAT rate))
Net from VAT-inclusive values = Gross taxable value ÷ (1 + VAT rate)
This calculator also separates non-taxed charges, helping ecommerce sellers see how fees and duty change the final payable amount.

FAQs
1. What does this UK VAT calculator do?
It calculates VAT for ecommerce baskets, including products, discounts, shipping, insurance, duty, and extra fees. It can either add VAT or extract it from VAT-inclusive prices.
2. Can I use a custom VAT rate?
Yes. Choose the custom option and enter any percentage. This helps when modelling unusual cases, historic rates, testing scenarios, or region-specific pricing rules.
3. What is the difference between inclusive and exclusive mode?
Exclusive mode adds VAT on top of net values. Inclusive mode starts with final selling prices and extracts the VAT portion already embedded in those values.
4. Should shipping always be taxed?
Not always. Shipping can follow the VAT treatment of the goods being sold. The checkbox lets you test taxed or untaxed shipping quickly.
5. Why is there a customs duty field?
Duty can affect the taxable base in cross-border ecommerce. Including it lets you model landed-cost pricing and understand the full amount due.
6. Can I export my result?
Yes. The result panel includes a CSV export for data handling and a PDF export for sharing, filing, quoting, or keeping transaction records.
7. Does the calculator support discounts?
Yes. Enter a percentage discount and the calculator reduces the product subtotal before calculating the basket totals and VAT values.
8. Can this help with product pricing decisions?
Yes. It shows net, VAT, gross, and per-unit outcomes, making it easier to plan storefront prices, promotional offers, and order profitability.
