This calculator centralizes those fields so teachers and students can review a complete record before computing results. In a typical term, classes may include quizzes, assignments, projects, and exams with different scales. Normalizing each item into percentages supports consistent comparisons and reduces spreadsheet mistakes caused by hidden formulas or manual rounding errors regularly.
The points-based mode is best for courses using simple totals. It adds earned points across included assessments, applies extra credit points, and divides by total possible points. For example, 140 earned points out of 160 total points produces 87.5 percent before bonuses. This method is transparent and easy to audit. The calculator also highlights unusually high earned values, helping users catch entry issues before final percentages are shared with confidence.
Weighted mode supports grading policies where categories matter more than raw point totals. If homework is 20 percent, quizzes 20 percent, midterms 25 percent, projects 15 percent, and finals 20 percent, the calculator multiplies each category score by its weight and sums the contributions. It also normalizes weights when they do not equal 100, preventing distorted results. This is especially useful during term planning when category weights are still being finalized for committees.

The calculator accepts weights in any proportional values. If they do not add to 100, it normalizes them automatically, so the weighted percentage still reflects the correct category balance.
Extra credit points increase the points-based percentage only. Bonus percent adds directly to the final calculated percentage. In weighted mode, use bonus percent to model participation or adjustment policies.
Drop Lowest removes the weakest assessment percentages before totals are calculated. It is useful for quiz-heavy courses where teachers allow one or more low scores to be excluded.
