Formula Used
Rent‑to‑Income Ratio measures the share of take‑home pay devoted to housing.
ratio (%) = 100 × (monthly_rent + utilities + other_housing_costs) ÷ monthly_income
- If your pay period is not monthly, income is converted to a monthly basis:
- Weekly → × 52 ÷ 12
- Bi‑weekly → × 26 ÷ 12
- Annual → ÷ 12
- Common guidelines suggest ≤ 30% is healthy, 30–40% is strained, > 40% is high risk. Always consider local context and debt obligations.
