FAQs
1) What should I include as a tool expense?
Include software subscriptions, hardware purchases, storage plans, hosting, repairs, design assets, security tools, and other costs that directly support your freelance work.
2) Why does business use percentage matter?
It prevents overstating expenses by counting only the share used for client work or business operations. This gives more realistic totals and cleaner bookkeeping.
3) What is monthly equivalent cost?
Monthly equivalent spreads one-time purchases across their useful life and combines them with recurring charges. It helps you compare very different expenses on one monthly basis.
4) Does annual cash cost mean profit or spending?
It means expected spending, not profit. It estimates how much cash your tools may consume in a year after business-use adjustments.
5) How is tax savings estimated here?
The calculator applies your deduction rate to annual cash cost. It is a planning estimate only and should not replace professional tax advice.
6) Why is recovery per billable hour useful?
It shows how much your rate must recover per hour to cover tool expenses. This is helpful when pricing retainers, proposals, and project minimums.
7) Can I track both subscriptions and one-time purchases together?
Yes. The tracker was built for mixed expense types, including monthly plans, annual renewals, repairs, usage-based tools, and equipment purchases.
8) What do CSV and PDF exports contain?
The exports include your summary metrics and the per-tool results table. They are useful for reporting, sharing, or saving a planning snapshot.
