Drip Emitter Count Calculator

Size emitters per plant or per line accurately. Check total flow and zone limits quickly. Save results, share with your installer, and irrigate confidently.

Calculator Inputs
Large screens show three columns, smaller screens adapt automatically.
Pick the approach that matches your layout.
Use the rating printed on the emitter or dripline.
%
Covers layout changes, replacements, and rounding.
Set by valve size, filter, pipe, or supply limit.
Applies to dripline length and spacing inputs.
Saved with your downloads.
Count shrubs, trees, pots, or planting points.
Trees often need 4–8; small plants 1–2.
%
Adds extra emitters for perimeter exposure or wind.

Example Data Table
Use these sample inputs to test the calculator.
Scenario Method Key Inputs Emitter Flow Zone Capacity Expected Result
Raised bed vegetables Per line 30 m per line, 2 lines, spacing 0.3 m 4 LPH 1200 LPH ~200–240 emitters, 1 zone
Fruit trees Per plant 20 plants, 6 emitters each, edge factor 0% 8 LPH 800 LPH ~132 emitters with margin, 2 zones
Hedge row Per plant 60 plants, 2 emitters each, edge factor 10% 4 LPH 1000 LPH ~145–160 emitters, 1 zone
Container patio Per plant 35 pots, 1 emitter each, edge factor 0% 2 LPH 500 LPH ~39 emitters, 1 zone
Actual results depend on your chosen safety margin and units.
Formula Used
  • Per plant method: Base Emitters = Plants × Emitters per Plant
  • Edge factor: Adjusted Base = Base × (1 + Edge% ÷ 100)
  • Per line method: Emitters per Line = ceil(Line Length ÷ Spacing)
  • Per line total: Base Emitters = Emitters per Line × Number of Lines
  • Extras: Extra Emitters = Flush Points × Emitters per Flush
  • Safety margin: Total Emitters = ceil((Base + Extra) × (1 + Safety% ÷ 100))
  • Total flow: Total Flow = Total Emitters × Flow per Emitter
  • Zones: Recommended Zones = ceil(Total Flow ÷ Zone Capacity)
All flow checks are converted internally to LPH for consistent calculations.
How to Use This Calculator
  1. Select a design method based on your garden layout.
  2. Enter emitter flow from the product label or specification.
  3. Provide plant counts and emitters per plant, or line length and spacing.
  4. Set zone capacity using your valve, filter, and supply limits.
  5. Add a safety margin to cover rounding and future adjustments.
  6. Press Calculate and review totals, flow, and zone recommendations.
  7. Download CSV for records or PDF for sharing and printing.
For new installations, verify pressure regulation and filtration to protect emitters.
Tip: If zones are high, consider splitting beds, reducing emitter flow, or using multiple manifolds.
