Example
Sample inputs and expected outputs
These numbers are illustrative. Always follow the herbicide label for the site and target weed.
| Scenario | Area | Spray volume | Product rate | Tank | Product needed | Total mix |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Backpack, garden beds | 100 m² | 5 L/100m² | 150 mL/100m² | 15 L | 150 mL | ~15.15 L |
| Spot spraying, higher carrier | 200 m² | 8 L/100m² | 200 mL/100m² | 15 L | 400 mL | ~16.4 L |
| Large plot | 0.25 acre | 20 gal/acre | 16 oz/acre | 20 gal | 4 oz | ~20.3 gal |
Why mix increases slightly: when you count product volume in the tank, total solution becomes carrier + product.
Method
Formula used
Rate-based coverage
Carrier water (L) = Area × Spray Volume Rate × (1 + Overage).
Liquid product (mL) = Area × Product Rate × (1 + Overage).
Total mix (L) ≈ Carrier water + Product (L), if counted in the tank.
Calibration-based spray volume
Application rate (L/ha) = (600 × Total Flow L/min) ÷ (Speed km/h × Width m).
Mix ratio option: Product (mL) = Total solution (L) × (mL per L).
Units are converted internally to square meters and liters for consistent math.
Guide
How to use this calculator
- Choose a method. Use rate-based if you already know spray volume. Use calibration mode if you measured flow, speed, and treated width.
- Enter the treated area. Select the correct unit to avoid large errors.
- Set spray volume and product rate. Use the herbicide label rate for your target weeds and site.
- Enter tank capacity and overage. Add overage if you expect overlap, wind drift, or leftover in the tank.
- Calculate and download. Save CSV for records or PDF for field notes.
