Formula Used
The calculator uses the common Old School combat level structure.
Base = 0.25 × (Defence + Hitpoints + floor(Prayer ÷ 2))
Melee = 0.325 × (Attack + Strength)
Ranged = 0.325 × (Ranged + floor(Ranged ÷ 2))
Magic = 0.325 × (Magic + floor(Magic ÷ 2))
Combat level = floor(Base + highest style component)
How To Use This Calculator
Enter each combat skill level from your account. Hitpoints starts at ten for regular accounts. Then press the calculate button. The result appears above the form and below the header. Review the style components to see which method controls your final combat level. Use CSV for spreadsheet records. Use PDF for a quick saved report.

What The Calculator Does
This calculator estimates your Old School RuneScape combat level from seven combat skills. It checks Attack, Strength, Defence, Hitpoints, Prayer, Ranged, and Magic. It then compares three offensive paths. These paths are melee, ranged, and magic. The strongest weighted path is added to your defensive base. The final number is rounded down.
Why Combat Level Matters
Combat level affects many parts of the game. It shapes wilderness brackets. It helps players compare builds. It can affect quest planning, boss readiness, and player-versus-player risk. A small skill gain can sometimes raise combat level. Other gains may not change it at all. That is why a weighted calculator is useful.
Understanding The Base Score
The base score comes from Defence, Hitpoints, and Prayer. Defence and Hitpoints count directly. Prayer counts at half value after flooring. This means one Prayer level does not always move the result. Two Prayer levels usually create a clearer change. Defensive training often raises combat level across all build types.
Understanding Style Weight
Melee uses Attack and Strength together. Ranged uses one and a half times your Ranged level after flooring. Magic works the same way as Ranged. The calculator chooses only the largest style value. Lower unused styles do not raise your combat level until they become the highest path.
Planning A Build
Pure accounts often watch Defence carefully. Ranged builds may raise Ranged without training Attack. Magic builds may rely on Magic for damage and utility. Main accounts usually train all styles. Use the style comparison to decide which skill is pushing your level. This helps you train with fewer surprises.
Reading The Result
The result card shows your combat level first. It also shows the dominant style. Then it lists each weighted component. If Melee is highest, Attack and Strength control the offensive part. If Ranged is highest, Ranged controls it. If Magic is highest, Magic controls it. The next level estimate shows the remaining weighted gap.
Exporting The Report
Use the CSV download for logs, sheets, and build planning. Use the PDF download for a simple saved record. Both exports use the same submitted levels. Recalculate after changing any input. This keeps the report aligned with the visible result.
FAQs
How is OSRS combat level calculated?
It combines a defensive base with the highest offensive style. The offensive style can be melee, ranged, or magic. The final value is rounded down.
Does Prayer always raise combat level?
No. Prayer is halved and floored in the base formula. Some single Prayer levels may not change your final combat level.
Why is my ranged build higher than expected?
Ranged is weighted as Ranged plus half of Ranged. If that value beats melee and magic, it controls the offensive part.
Does Magic affect combat level?
Yes. Magic can control your combat level when its weighted value is higher than your melee or ranged value.
What levels should Hitpoints use?
Use your current Hitpoints level. Regular accounts start at ten, so this calculator keeps ten as the minimum input.
Why is the result rounded down?
The game formula uses flooring. Decimal combat values are not shown as full levels until they reach the next whole number.
Can this help plan a pure account?
Yes. It helps show whether Defence, Prayer, Ranged, Magic, or melee stats will push your combat level upward.
What does dominant style mean?
Dominant style is the offensive calculation with the highest value. That style is added to your base component.
