Allergy Sensitivity Index Calculator

Track reactions, score triggers, and review symptom burden. See weighted results with practical daily interpretation. Build clearer records for discussions and routine allergy monitoring.

Use a 0 to 10 scale for symptom and impact items. This tool summarizes trends and does not diagnose allergies.

Important: Seek urgent care for breathing trouble, fainting, swelling of the throat, or rapidly worsening symptoms.

Example data table

Profile Primary Trigger Episodes/Week Symptom Average Relief % ASI Score Band
Seasonal office worker Pollen 5 2.6 / 10 55% 38.7 Mild
Pet exposure at home Cat dander 9 4.8 / 10 40% 59.8 Moderate
Multiple indoor triggers Dust and mold 13 6.2 / 10 25% 77.9 High

Formula used

The index converts each input into a 0 to 100 score, then applies weighted importance. Higher scores represent greater observed sensitivity burden from symptoms, exposure patterns, and lower symptom relief.

ASI = (0.24 × Symptom Burden) + (0.12 × Exposure Frequency) + (0.10 × Rapid Onset) +
(0.10 × Reaction Duration) + (0.10 × Low Relief Effect) + (0.08 × Trigger Diversity) +
(0.08 × Environmental Load) + (0.08 × Reaction Consistency) + (0.07 × Daily Life Impact) +
(0.03 × Sleep Disruption)

Supporting conversions

  • Symptom burden = average of five symptom ratings × 10.
  • Exposure frequency is capped at 14 episodes weekly.
  • Rapid onset increases when symptoms begin sooner.
  • Low relief effect = 100 − relief percentage.
  • Trigger diversity reaches full score at 12 triggers.

How to use this calculator

  1. Rate nasal, eye, skin, respiratory, and digestive symptoms from 0 to 10 based on your usual reaction pattern.
  2. Add exposure frequency, onset timing, duration, relief level, and number of known triggers.
  3. Score environmental load, daily impact, reaction consistency, and sleep disruption.
  4. Enter a short trigger label and optional notes for context.
  5. Press Calculate Index to show the result above the form.
  6. Use the CSV and PDF buttons to save a shareable snapshot for your records or clinical discussions.

Frequently asked questions

1. What does the index measure?

It summarizes recorded allergy-related burden using symptom intensity, exposure frequency, timing, duration, relief, and daily impact. It helps compare patterns over time rather than diagnose a condition.

2. Is this a medical diagnosis?

No. The score is a self-monitoring aid. It cannot confirm allergies, intolerance, or anaphylaxis. Persistent, severe, or respiratory symptoms should be reviewed by a qualified clinician.

3. Why does faster onset increase the score?

Rapid reactions often indicate a stronger association with the suspected trigger. The model therefore gives higher burden points when symptoms start sooner after exposure.

4. Why is medication relief reversed?

Better relief lowers the burden estimate. Poor relief suggests symptoms remain troublesome despite treatment, so the calculator raises the index through a low-relief penalty component.

5. Can I use this for food, environmental, or pet triggers?

Yes. The structure is flexible for many trigger types, including pollen, dust, mold, food, pets, or cleaning products. Accurate notes improve comparison across different exposure settings.

6. What score range is considered high?

Scores from 60 to 79 fall into the High band, while 80 and above are Very High. These bands suggest heavier burden and a stronger need for careful tracking and professional review.

7. How often should I recalculate the score?

Recalculate whenever you gather new symptom patterns, medication response data, or exposure changes. Weekly or seasonal review works well for spotting trends and comparing control strategies.

8. When should I seek urgent care instead of using this tool?

Seek urgent care for breathing difficulty, throat swelling, fainting, widespread hives with severe symptoms, or rapidly worsening reactions. This calculator is not a substitute for emergency assessment.
