- Foot series if midfoot pain and any of: tenderness at the base of fifth metatarsal or navicular, or unable to bear weight both immediately and now.

- Validated primarily in adults and children over ~2 years; local protocols may vary.
- Record exact sites of tenderness and demonstrate palpation over the posterior edge or tip of the malleoli.
- Ask and document whether the patient managed four steps immediately after injury and now.
- Note edema, ecchymosis, deformity, wounds, and distal neurovascular status.
- If no imaging, provide written return precautions and re‑evaluation guidance.
- Consider differential diagnoses: Lisfranc injury, Achilles rupture, syndesmotic injury, or occult fractures.
