Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the best split method for serviced accommodation?

Use guest count or occupied days when consumption rises with usage. Use equal sharing when rooms are similar and occupancy patterns rarely vary.

2. Should vacant rooms share utility costs?

That depends on policy. Some operators assign a partial share to vacant rooms because common lighting, security, and standby systems still create overhead.

3. When should I use the metered charge portion field?

Use it when part of the bill comes from measured room usage, such as electricity or water meters. The remaining pool is split by weights.

4. Can I apply discounts before tax?

Yes. This calculator subtracts the discount before calculating tax, which matches many billing workflows and keeps final room shares consistent.

5. Why use a minimum occupied room charge?

It prevents very small bills for lightly used rooms. This can be useful when every occupied room should contribute a baseline amount.

6. What happens if my minimum charge is too high?

The calculator reduces the effective minimum automatically when needed. That keeps the full split balanced without creating extra charges beyond the total bill.

7. Can I use custom weights for premium suites?

Yes. Choose the custom method and enter a higher weight for premium rooms, larger units, or rooms with higher expected consumption.

8. What should I export after calculation?

Export CSV for spreadsheets and reconciliation. Export PDF for management reviews, guest accounting records, or front desk approval workflows.
