Ethereum Gas Fee Calculator

Model base fee, tip, gas limits, and caps. See effective price, burn, and validator reward. Make smarter entries during volatile network conditions and launches.

Calculator Inputs

Choosing a preset can auto-fill gas limit.
Protocol-set network fee per gas unit.
Extra incentive for faster inclusion.
Upper cap paid per gas unit.
Maximum gas units authorized for execution.
Useful for modeling partial limit consumption.
Converts network cost into dollars.
Used to measure fee impact versus transfer size.
Adds a reserve above the fee cap estimate.

Example Data Table

Scenario Base Fee (Gwei) Tip (Gwei) Gas Used Total Fee (ETH) Total Fee (USD)
Native Transfer 30 2 21,000 0.000672 2.352000
ERC-20 Transfer 30 2 65,000 0.002080 7.280000
DEX Swap 30 2 180,000 0.005760 20.160000
NFT Mint 35 3 150,000 0.005700 19.950000

These rows are sample planning values only. Real costs vary with block demand, contract complexity, and the exact gas actually consumed.

Formula Used

1) Target fee per gas: Base Fee + Priority Fee

2) Effective gas price: minimum of Max Fee and Target Fee per gas

3) Gas used: Gas Limit × (Gas Used % ÷ 100)

4) Total fee in Gwei: Gas Used × Effective Gas Price

5) ETH fee: Total Fee in Gwei ÷ 1,000,000,000

6) USD fee: ETH Fee × ETH Price in USD

7) Validator tip actually paid: minimum of Priority Fee and (Max Fee − Base Fee), never below zero

8) Burned base fee: Gas Used × Base Fee, limited by the effective gas price cap when needed

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Choose a transaction preset or keep a custom workflow.
  2. Enter the current base fee from your wallet or tracker.
  3. Add your desired priority fee for faster confirmation.
  4. Set a max fee cap to control worst-case spend.
  5. Confirm or adjust the gas limit for the action.
  6. Use gas used percent to model incomplete or efficient execution.
  7. Enter ETH price to see the same fee in dollars.
  8. Optionally enter the ETH amount being sent to measure fee efficiency.
  9. Press submit to show the result above the form.
  10. Use the CSV or PDF buttons to save the output.

Why This Calculator Helps Investors

Ethereum gas can materially affect transfer efficiency, DeFi rebalancing, NFT entries, and bridge decisions. A fee model helps compare whether execution now is economical, whether a high tip is justified, and how much capital is consumed by network overhead versus the position itself.

This page also separates the burned amount from the validator reward, which is useful when evaluating onchain cost structure rather than only the final transaction total.

FAQs

1. What is the base fee in Ethereum?

The base fee is the network-set cost per gas unit. It changes with congestion and is burned rather than paid to the validator.

2. What does the priority fee do?

The priority fee is the tip offered to validators. Higher tips can improve inclusion speed during busy periods, but they also increase total transaction cost.

3. Why is max fee important?

Max fee caps your per-gas spending. If it is too low, the transaction may remain pending or fail to become competitive enough for inclusion.

4. What is gas limit?

Gas limit is the maximum computation units you authorize. Simple transfers use less, while swaps, mints, and complex contracts usually require far more.

5. Why compare ETH and USD fees?

ETH shows the native onchain cost, while USD helps budgeting. Both views together are useful for investors managing position size, entry timing, and profitability.

6. Can actual gas used be lower than gas limit?

Yes. Gas limit is only the ceiling. Actual gas used depends on execution path, contract logic, token behavior, and whether the transaction completes efficiently.

7. When does the fee cap reduce my tip?

If max fee is below base fee plus your chosen tip, the protocol effectively trims the tip so the total price per gas stays within your cap.

8. Is a higher gas fee always better?

No. Paying more may speed confirmation, but it can also reduce trade efficiency. The right value depends on urgency, market risk, and transaction importance.
