Formula Used

Weighted Engagements = Likes + (Comments × 2) + (Shares × 3) + (Clicks × 2.5) + (Video Views × 0.25) + (Saves × 2) + Custom Engagements

Cost Per Engagement = Total Spend ÷ Weighted Engagements

Cost Per Raw Engagement = Total Spend ÷ Total Raw Engagements

CPM = (Total Spend ÷ Impressions) × 1000

CTR = (Clicks ÷ Impressions) × 100

Conversion Rate = (Conversions ÷ Clicks) × 100

ROAS = Revenue ÷ Total Spend

The weighting model treats deeper actions as more valuable than passive actions. You can adjust weights in code if your reporting framework values engagements differently.

FAQs

1. What is cost per engagement?

Cost per engagement measures how much you spend for each meaningful interaction with your campaign. It helps compare efficiency across ads, audiences, and channels.

2. Why are comments and shares weighted more heavily?

Comments and shares usually signal stronger audience intent than simple likes or views. Weighting them more heavily gives a richer performance picture.

3. Can I use this for social media only?

No. You can use it for email, influencer promotions, content campaigns, paid media, or any channel where engagement actions can be counted.

4. What is a good cost per engagement?

A good value depends on industry, audience quality, offer type, and channel. Compare your result against past campaigns and revenue outcomes instead of using one universal target.

5. Should video views count as engagement?

They can, but many teams value them less than clicks, comments, or shares. This calculator gives views a lighter weight to reflect weaker intent.

6. How is this different from CPC?

CPC looks only at clicks. Cost per engagement includes multiple interaction types, making it more useful when brand activity matters beyond website traffic.

7. Why include revenue and conversions here?

Revenue and conversions help connect engagement efficiency with business outcomes. A cheap engagement is less useful if it does not support profitable actions.

8. Can I customize the weighting model?

Yes. Edit the weighted engagement formula in the code to match your attribution model, campaign goals, or platform-specific engagement values.
