Example data

Try these presets to see how counting behaves with weekends and holidays.

Example Mode Start End / Offset Holidays Action
A Between 2025-11-03 2025-11-21 2025-11-10
B Add 2025-11-05 +15 2025-11-18, 2025-11-19
C Between 2025-12-22 2026-01-05 2025-12-25, 2026-01-01

Formula used

Let W be the set of working weekdays and H the set of holiday dates. For a date range [d0, d1] the business-day count is:

BD = Σd=d0..d1 I(weekday(d) ∈ W) · I(d ∉ H)

Where I(·) is the indicator function. For offsets, we advance day by day from the start, accumulating only days where the indicator evaluates to 1, until the target count is reached.

  • Weekend handling is generalized via your chosen workweek set W.
  • Holidays remove specific dates regardless of weekday.
  • Inclusion of start/end dates simply shifts the summation endpoints.

How to use this calculator

  2. Choose your start date and, if needed, the end date or offset.
  3. Select the working weekdays; add any holiday dates.
  4. Choose whether to include start or end within the count.

  6. Download your audit as CSV or PDF for recordkeeping.

Tip: you can include Saturdays or Sundays by checking them in the workweek.

What counts as a business day?

  • Any date whose weekday is selected in Working days.
  • Dates listed in Holidays are always excluded from counting.
  • Times of day are ignored; counting is by whole dates only.

Inclusive vs exclusive counting

Switch the “Include start date” and “Include end date” toggles to control endpoints.

  • Range: 2025-11-03 → 2025-11-07 (Mon–Fri)
    • Include start + end: 5 business days.
    • Include start only: 4 business days.
    • Include end only: 4 business days.
    • Exclude both: 3 business days.

Holidays inside the range subtract one for each matching date.

Regional workweek patterns

  • Standard offices: Monday–Friday selected; weekends excluded.
  • Retail/operations: add Saturday when appropriate; optionally keep Sunday off.
  • Custom schedules: check any weekday combination to match local policy.
