Calculator Form

Reset
Switch modes to solve common ratio problems from one page.
Enter at least two comma-separated positive numbers.
This mode solves A : B = C : D. Leave exactly one box blank.
Useful for splitting money, inventory, workload, or marks fairly.
Example: if the second part becomes 45, find all equivalent values.
Both ratios must contain the same number of terms.
Enter raw quantities to convert them into a simplified ratio.

Example Data Table

Problem Type Sample Input Expected Output
Simplify Ratio 12, 18, 24 2 : 3 : 4
Find Missing Value 4 : 7 = 20 : x x = 35
Divide Total by Ratio Total 540, Ratio 2 : 3 : 4 120, 180, 240
Scale Ratio 3 : 5 : 7, second part = 45 27 : 45 : 63
Compare Ratios 8 : 12 and 10 : 15 Equivalent
Quantities to Ratio 2.5, 5, 7.5 1 : 2 : 3

Formula Used

1) Simplifying Ratios

Simplified term = each term ÷ greatest common divisor. If decimals exist, convert them to aligned whole numbers first.

2) Missing Value

For A : B = C : D, use cross multiplication. Example: D = (B × C) ÷ A.

3) Dividing a Total

Share = Total × individual ratio term ÷ sum of all ratio terms.

4) Scaling a Ratio

Scale factor = target known part ÷ original known part. Equivalent term = original term × scale factor.

5) Comparing Ratios

Reduce both ratios first. Two ratios are equivalent when their simplified forms match exactly.

6) Quantities to Ratio

Ratio from quantities is obtained by converting values to aligned integers, then dividing by the greatest common divisor.

How to Use This Calculator

FAQs

1) What does this ratio problem solver handle?

It simplifies ratios, finds missing proportional values, divides totals by ratios, scales equivalent ratios, compares ratios, and converts quantities into simplified ratio form.

2) Can I enter decimal values?

Yes. Decimal inputs are converted into aligned whole-number terms before simplification, so ratios like 2.5, 5, and 7.5 are handled correctly.

3) How does the missing value mode work?

Enter three known values in A : B = C : D and leave one box blank. The solver uses cross multiplication to compute the missing term.

4) What is the divide total mode useful for?

It is useful for splitting money, prizes, resources, workload, or marks fairly according to a given ratio while also showing each share percentage.

5) How are equivalent ratios produced?

The solver finds a scale factor from one known part and multiplies every term by that same factor, preserving proportional relationships.

6) What makes two ratios equivalent?

Two ratios are equivalent when their simplified forms match exactly. For two-term ratios, they also produce the same quotient value.

7) Does the calculator support multi-term ratios?

Yes. Simplifying, dividing totals, scaling, comparing, and quantity conversion all support ratios with more than two terms.

8) What do the export buttons save?

The CSV and PDF tools export the current result table only, making it easy to store, print, or share the calculated output.
