Formula Used

1) Percentage from Marks

Percentage = (Marks Obtained / Total Marks) × 100

2) GPA 4.0 Equivalent

GPA 4.0 = (Percentage / 100) × 4

3) GPA 5.0 Equivalent

GPA 5.0 = (Percentage / 100) × 5

4) CGPA 10-Point Equivalent

CGPA 10 = (Percentage / 100) × 10

5) Letter Grade Lookup

The tool matches the normalized percentage against configured letter-grade intervals.

Example: 87.00% to 89.99% = B+

6) UK Honours Band

First Class: 70%+, Upper Second: 60%+, Lower Second: 50%+, Third Class: 40%+, below 40%: Fail. These are general reference bands.

Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can one grading system perfectly match another?

Not always. Institutions may use different course weights, grade bands, transcript rules, and rounding policies. This tool gives a practical reference, not an official academic ruling.

2) Why does the tool convert everything through percentage first?

Percentage provides a common baseline. Once normalized, the tool can estimate GPA, CGPA, letter grade, and honours classification in a consistent way.

3) Does the letter-grade result use a fixed scale?

Yes. The included letter scale uses common plus-minus percentage bands. Schools may define different boundaries, so verify your institution’s handbook when accuracy is critical.

4) Is the 4.0 GPA conversion official for admissions?

No. It is an estimate based on normalized percentage. Admissions offices may evaluate transcripts using proprietary rules, weighted credits, or approved credential services.

5) Can I use marks obtained instead of percentage?

Yes. Choose the marks option, enter obtained marks and total marks, and the tool converts them to percentage before calculating all other outputs.

6) What does the pass threshold control?

It changes the pass or below-threshold status shown in the result. This is helpful when different institutions use different minimum passing percentages.

7) Why does a letter grade use a midpoint percentage?

A letter grade covers a range, not a single score. The tool uses the midpoint of that interval to create a balanced numerical estimate for GPA and CGPA conversions.

8) Can I download my conversion summary?

Yes. After calculating, use the CSV button for spreadsheet-friendly data or the PDF button for a clean summary document suitable for records or sharing.
