Formula used

The calculator combines two parts:

  1. BP category points based on the higher of systolic or diastolic category.
  2. Risk-factor points for age threshold, smoking, diabetes, kidney disease, high cholesterol, BMI ≥ 30, family history, and low activity.

Risk score = BP points + risk-factor points − 1 if on medication (minimum 0).

Important: This is a simplified educational score. Clinical risk tools may use labs, history, and repeated measurements.
