Male: Predicted 6MWD = (7.57 × height cm) − (5.02 × age) − (1.76 × weight kg) − 309

Female: Predicted 6MWD = (2.11 × height cm) − (2.29 × weight kg) − (5.78 × age) + 667

Lower limit of normal: Male LLN = predicted − 153. Female LLN = predicted − 139.

Pakistani adult reference equations

Male: Predicted 6MWD = 164.08 + 78.06 − (1.90 × age) + (1.95 × height cm)

Female: Predicted 6MWD = 164.08 − (1.90 × age) + (1.95 × height cm)

Derived metrics: % predicted = actual distance ÷ predicted distance × 100. Average speed = distance ÷ total seconds.

A lower percent predicted or a result below LLN can support functional review, but this tool does not diagnose a cause.

FAQs

1) What does this calculator estimate?

It estimates walking distance performance, percent predicted, pace, and selected change measures from a six-minute walk entry. It also compares the observed result with a reference equation and, when available, the lower limit of normal.

2) Which reference model should I choose?

Choose the reference that best matches your patient population and testing context. Adult reference equations and local population equations can give different percent predicted values, so the chosen model should stay consistent across serial comparisons.

3) Why can percent predicted change between models?

Each equation was derived from a different population and uses different predictors. A result can look stronger or weaker depending on the model. That is why repeated follow-up should usually keep the same equation.

4) Can I use a test stopped before six minutes?

You can enter a shorter duration, and the calculator will still show pace. However, comparison with standard six-minute references becomes less direct, so interpret the result very cautiously.

5) Does a low oxygen value prove disease severity?

No. Entered saturation changes can highlight a possible concern, but they do not explain the cause. Sensor quality, effort, oxygen setup, and clinical condition all matter when reviewing desaturation.

6) Why include both exact distance and laps?

Some users document the final measured distance directly, while others record corridor laps and a final partial segment. Exact distance takes priority because it usually reflects the official measured result.

7) Is one test enough for comparison over time?

Sometimes not. People often do better after becoming familiar with the test. Standardized repeat testing can reduce that learning effect and make follow-up comparisons more useful.

8) Can this replace clinician interpretation?

No. This tool organizes values and reference comparisons, but real interpretation also depends on symptoms, diagnosis, medications, oxygen use, safety factors, and test conditions.
