Formula Used

Final Pack Cost = (Pack Price - Discount + Shipping) × (1 + Tax Rate)

Usable Diapers = Diapers Per Pack × (1 - Waste Rate)

Cost Per Usable Diaper = Final Pack Cost ÷ Usable Diapers

Monthly Cost = Cost Per Usable Diaper × Daily Changes × 30.4375

Total Cost = Cost Per Usable Diaper × Daily Changes × Comparison Days

Packs Needed = Ceiling(Total Required Diapers ÷ Usable Diapers Per Pack)

These formulas help compare sticker price, pack size, discounts, taxes, and waste together instead of checking shelf price alone.

FAQs

1. Why compare cost per diaper instead of pack price only?

Pack price alone can mislead because brands sell different quantities. Cost per usable diaper shows the real unit cost after size differences, discounts, and waste.

2. What does waste rate mean here?

Waste rate estimates diapers lost to bad fits, leaks, emergency changes, damaged items, or unused leftovers. It helps make the comparison more realistic.

3. Should I include shipping and tax?

Yes. Shipping and tax often change the best deal. A low shelf price can become more expensive after extra checkout costs are added.

4. Can this compare store brands and premium brands?

Yes. The calculator is designed for any two diaper options, including store brands, premium brands, eco diapers, or subscription packs.

5. How many daily changes should I enter?

Use your child’s recent average. Newborns usually need more changes than older babies, so update the value when habits change.

6. Does this handle coupon savings?

Yes. Enter direct pack discounts in the discount fields. You can include coupons, loyalty savings, or automatic subscription discounts.

7. Why are packs needed rounded up?

You cannot buy a fraction of a diaper pack. Rounding up reflects the actual number of full packs you would need to cover the period.

8. Can I use this for pull-ups or training pants?

Yes. Replace diaper pack details with training pants or pull-up values. The unit comparison logic works the same way.
