Sleep Planner Inputs

Example Data Table

This sample shows how a 9 month old child might be planned using common sleep targets and a stable bedtime routine.

Age Wake Time Bedtime Naps Nap Length Estimated Wake Window
9 months 07:00 AM 07:30 PM 2 90 min each 180 min
15 months 06:45 AM 07:15 PM 1 120 min 285 min
4 months 07:15 AM 08:00 PM 4 75 min each 111 min

Formula Used

The planner blends age based sleep guidance with your chosen wake time and bedtime.

1. Day span = Bedtime − Morning wake time

2. Planned daytime sleep = Number of naps × Average nap duration

3. Available awake time = Day span − Planned daytime sleep − Settling buffer − Extra reset breaks

4. Wake window estimate = Available awake time ÷ Number of wake periods

5. Final wake window is limited to the recommended range for the child’s age band.

This creates a realistic daily structure instead of a rigid medical prescription. Families can then adjust for feeding, teething, travel, illness, or childcare routines.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is this planner only for babies?

No. It works for infants, older babies, and toddlers. The age based logic changes nap count, wake windows, and sleep targets to suit different developmental stages.

2. Does this replace advice from a pediatric professional?

No. This tool is for planning and organization only. Families should always use medical guidance for health concerns, growth issues, sleep disorders, or unusual sleep patterns.

3. Why does the planner use wake windows?

Wake windows help spread sleep pressure across the day. They can reduce overtiredness and support smoother naps and bedtime when paired with consistent routines.

4. What happens if naps are shorter than planned?

Short naps usually reduce total daytime sleep and may pull bedtime earlier. You can rerun the planner using a lower nap duration to create a more accurate same day plan.

5. Can I manually choose the number of naps?

Yes. Select manual mode and enter your preferred nap count. The planner will still compare the result against age based wake window guidance.

6. Why is there a settling buffer before bedtime?

The settling buffer protects time for feeding, bathing, cuddling, reading, or soothing. It keeps the final schedule more realistic for actual family evenings.

7. What does the consistency score mean?

It is a simple planning score. Higher values mean the schedule stays closer to age based wake ranges, balanced day sleep, and manageable daily timing.

8. Can I print this schedule for caregivers?

Yes. Use the PDF export to create a printable version. The CSV export is useful for spreadsheets, tracking, and adjusting routines over time.
