Barbell Weight Calculator

Plan your workout loads with accurate plate math and unit checks today. See totals in mass, force, and per-side plates before lifting every time.

Inputs

Changing units reloads plate presets.
Total collars add twice this value.
Use 9.80665 for standard Earth gravity.

Standard plates (quantity per side)

Enter counts per side; totals are doubled automatically.

Custom plates (optional, per side)

Custom plates are added after standard plates.

Tip: Press Calculate before downloading.

Example data table

Scenario Unit Bar Collar each Plates per side Total mass
Typical strength set kg 20 2.5 20×2, 10×1, 5×1 120
Powerlifting benchmark lb 45 5 45×2, 25×1, 10×1 205
Technique warm-up kg 20 0 10×1 40

Totals assume identical loading on both sides.

Formula used

The calculator treats the barbell as a symmetric system. Enter plate counts per side. Total mass is the bar, plus collars, plus plates on both sides.

Weight force depends on gravity; mass does not.

How to use this calculator

  1. Select your unit system (kg or lb).
  2. Enter bar mass and collar mass for one collar.
  3. Type plate quantities per side for each plate size.
  4. Add any uncommon plates using the custom rows.
  5. Click Calculate to see totals and a per-side breakdown.
  6. Use Download CSV or Download PDF to export results.

Lift smarter by knowing exactly what’s on the bar.
