Formula Used
The calculator uses a weighted quality model. It combines character range, estimated pixel width, word count, readability, keyword placement, action language, brand usage, and title alignment.
Total Score = Length Score + Pixel Score + Word Score + Readability Score + Keyword Score + CTA Score + Brand Score + Title Match Score
Character Count = Total number of visible characters in the description.
Word Count = Number of space-separated words in the description.
Estimated Pixel Width = Sum of approximate character widths based on snippet display patterns.
Readability uses the Flesch Reading Ease equation: 206.835 − 1.015 × (words ÷ sentences) − 84.6 × (syllables ÷ words).
Keyword Placement Score rewards target phrases found earlier in the text because earlier placement often improves perceived relevance.

FAQs
What does this checker measure?
It evaluates length, estimated pixel width, word count, readability, keyword placement, action language, title relevance, and brand presence to rate snippet quality.
Why use pixel width instead of only characters?
Search snippets truncate by visual width, not just character count. Wide letters consume more space, so pixel estimates provide a more realistic display check.
What is a good meta description length?
A strong description usually stays around 145 to 160 characters in strict mode, while still remaining readable and useful for searchers.
Should the target keyword appear first?
Earlier placement can strengthen relevance signals and improve scan value. It should still read naturally and avoid forced repetition.
Does a meta description affect rankings directly?
It usually influences click-through rate more than direct ranking. Better snippets can still support stronger search performance through improved engagement.
Why include a brand name?
Brand mentions can improve trust and recognition, especially on commercial pages, branded searches, or competitive results where familiarity matters.
Can I use this for mobile snippets?
Yes. Switch the device profile to mobile and the calculator uses a tighter pixel guideline to reflect smaller search result displays.
What should I do after getting a low score?
Shorten or expand the description, add the keyword naturally, improve readability, include a clear action verb, and recheck until the score improves.
