FAQs

What is effective field goal percentage?
It measures shooting efficiency by giving extra weight to three-pointers. The formula is (FGM + 0.5 × 3PM) ÷ FGA.
How is it different from regular field goal percentage?
Regular FG% is FGM ÷ FGA. eFG% adds half a make for each three-pointer to reflect the higher point value of threes.
Do free throws affect eFG%?
No. Free throws are not part of eFG%. They are included in other metrics such as True Shooting Percentage (TS%).
Can eFG% be over 100%?
Yes, in rare cases with very few attempts and many threes made, eFG% can exceed 100% because each 3PM counts as 1.5 in the numerator.
Should I enter 2PM and 3PM or just FGM and 3PM?
Either works. If you know the breakdown of twos and threes, use 2PM+3PM. If you only know total makes, use FGM+3PM.
What if my inputs are inconsistent?
The calculator flags logical issues such as FGM > FGA or 3PM > FGM so you can correct the values.
