Formula Used

Item Subtotal = Unit Price × Quantity

Discount Amount = Subtotal × Discount% or Fixed Discount

Net Items = Item Subtotal − Discount Amount

Gross Taxable Base = Net Items + Taxable Shipping + Taxable Fees

Exempt Amount = Gross Taxable Base × Exempt Portion%

Net Taxable Base = Gross Taxable Base − Exempt Amount

Exclusive Tax Amount = Net Taxable Base × Tax Rate

Inclusive Tax Amount = Net Taxable Base − (Net Taxable Base ÷ (1 + Tax Rate))

Grand Total = Net Items + Shipping + Fees + Tax Amount, unless tax is already included in entered prices.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does this calculator compute?

It calculates the sales tax amount, taxable base, discounts, shipping impact, exemptions, and final payable total for a transaction.

2. Can I include shipping in the tax base?

Yes. Choose whether shipping is taxable. The calculator then adds or excludes shipping from the taxable base automatically.

3. How are discounts handled?

Discounts are applied before tax. You can use either a percentage discount or a fixed discount amount.

4. What is an exempt portion?

An exempt portion removes part of the taxable base. This is useful when only a fraction of the sale is subject to tax.

5. What does inclusive tax mean?

Inclusive tax means the entered amount already contains tax. The calculator extracts the tax portion instead of adding it on top.

6. Why is rounding mode important?

Different invoicing systems round differently. Selecting the proper rule helps match receipts, bookkeeping entries, and point of sale outputs.

7. Can I export the result?

Yes. Use the CSV button for spreadsheet-friendly output and the PDF button for a printable summary of the result section.

8. Is this useful for invoice checking?

Yes. It helps verify whether a bill’s tax amount and final total are consistent with discounts, fees, and taxable components.
