Formula Used

Admission Index = 0.18 × Score % + 0.22 × Rank Percentile + 0.28 × Cutoff Fit + 0.08 × Budget Fit + 0.08 × Branch Fit + 0.05 × Location Fit + 0.04 × Quota Fit + 0.03 × Category Fit + 0.04 × Placement Fit + Adjustments

Key scoring components

  • Score % = (Obtained Score ÷ Maximum Score) × 100.
  • Rank Percentile = ((Total Candidates − Rank + 1) ÷ Total Candidates) × 100.
  • Cutoff Fit compares your rank against each branch cutoff.
  • Budget Fit rewards colleges within your annual budget.
  • Branch, quota, category, and location increase match quality.

Adjustments applied

  • Hard papers add a small positive normalization bonus.
  • Later counseling rounds slightly improve flexibility.
  • Academic consistency adds a mild confidence adjustment.
  • Home-state and quota fit can improve specific options.
  • Placement priority changes the value of high-outcome colleges.

FAQs

1. What does the admission index mean?

It is a weighted fit score from 0 to 100. Higher values indicate stronger alignment with cutoff rank, budget, branch preference, quota, and location filters.

2. Is this predictor a final admission guarantee?

No. It is a planning tool. Final admission depends on official counseling data, category rules, seat matrix changes, document verification, and real-time vacancy movement.

3. Why does budget affect the ranking?

A college can look reachable academically but still be financially impractical. Budget fit reduces such options, helping create a shortlist you can actually pursue.

4. How should I interpret safer, target, reach, and dream?

Safer options have stronger fit scores. Target options are realistic. Reach choices need favorable movement. Dream choices are aggressive and should stay limited in number.

5. Why is my rank more important than my score?

Counseling cutoffs are usually rank-based. Score still matters, but rank percentile often aligns better with historical admissions and branch-level seat competition.

6. Can I replace the example colleges with real institutions?

Yes. Update the sample dataset array with official colleges, branches, fee values, quotas, categories, and last-round cutoff ranks to make it production-ready.

7. Why does the counseling round change the result?

Later rounds may offer extra flexibility through withdrawals, seat shuffling, or spot counseling. The adjustment is small and should not overpower rank fundamentals.

8. What should I do after seeing the shortlist?

Export the table, compare official cutoffs, verify branch accreditation, check hostel and fee details, then create a counseling order with balanced safer and target choices.
