These rows show how completed work, remaining coursework assumptions, and final exam performance interact in a weighted grading system.
Formula Used
1) Earned Weighted Points
Earned Weighted Points = Current Grade × Completed Weight
2) Remaining Coursework Weight
Remaining Coursework Weight = 100 − Completed Weight − Final Exam Weight
3) Required Final Exam Score
Required Final = (Target Grade × 100 − Current Grade × Completed Weight − Expected Remaining Coursework Score × Remaining Coursework Weight) ÷ Final Exam Weight
4) Required Average on All Remaining Work
Required Remaining Average = (Target Grade × 100 − Current Grade × Completed Weight) ÷ (100 − Completed Weight)
5) Projected Final Grade
Projected Final Grade = (Current Grade × Completed Weight + Expected Remaining Coursework Score × Remaining Coursework Weight + Planned Final Score × Final Exam Weight) ÷ 100
How to Use This Calculator
Step 1: Enter your current course average and the percentage weight already completed.
Step 2: Enter your target final grade and the final exam weight from your syllabus.
Step 3: Estimate your average on remaining non-final coursework, such as quizzes, labs, projects, or homework.
Step 4: Add a planned final exam score to see your likely course outcome under your current study plan.
Step 5: Review the required final score, projected final grade, grade letter, and sensitivity table.
Step 6: Use the graph to compare scenarios, then export the results as CSV or PDF for planning.
FAQs
1) What does this grade goal calculator measure?
It estimates the final exam score or remaining average needed to reach a target course grade. It also projects your final grade using weighted coursework and your planned exam performance.
2) Can I use it for any subject?
Yes. It works for any class that uses weighted grading, such as science, math, history, language courses, professional certifications, and many test prep programs with multiple assessment categories.
3) What is completed weight?
Completed weight is the total percentage of the course already graded. It may include homework, projects, labs, quizzes, or midterms that already count toward your final course average.
4) What if my required final score is above 100%?
That means your target is not reachable with the current assumptions. You may need a lower target, stronger remaining coursework performance, or corrected course weights from your syllabus.
5) Why enter expected remaining coursework?
It improves accuracy. Many courses still have assignments before the final exam, so estimating those scores gives a more realistic required final exam target and projection.
6) Why does the calculator show letters too?
Letter grades make the result easier to interpret. You can also customize the A, B, C, and D cutoffs to match your school, district, college, or exam policy.
7) What does the graph help me understand?
The graph shows how your projected final grade changes as final exam performance changes. It helps you see whether small score gains meaningfully improve your overall result.
8) When should I export the result?
Export results when you want a study plan record, want to compare targets across subjects, or need a quick summary to discuss with a tutor, parent, advisor, or instructor.
