Formula Used
1. Shift Span
Shift Span = End Time − Start Time. If end time is earlier, add 24 hours.
2. Worked Hours
Worked Hours = (Shift Span Minutes − Break Minutes) ÷ 60
3. Regular Hours
Regular Hours = Smaller of Worked Hours and Regular Hours Threshold
4. Overtime Hours
Overtime Hours = Worked Hours − Regular Hours Threshold, never below zero
5. Pay Calculation
Regular Pay = Regular Hours × Hourly Rate
OT Pay = Overtime Hours × Hourly Rate × OT Multiplier
Total Pay = Regular Pay + OT Pay + Shift Allowance

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What does this OT shift calculator measure?
It measures total shift span, break-adjusted worked hours, regular hours, overtime hours, regular pay, overtime pay, allowance, and total pay. It also flags overnight shifts automatically.
2. Can it handle overnight shifts?
Yes. If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator treats the shift as crossing midnight. That keeps overnight totals accurate without manual date changes.
3. What is the regular hour threshold?
It is the number of hours paid at the standard rate before overtime starts. Many workplaces use 8 hours, but you can enter any valid threshold your policy requires.
4. How is overtime pay calculated?
Overtime pay equals overtime hours multiplied by hourly rate and then multiplied by the overtime multiplier. For example, 2 overtime hours at $20 and 1.5x gives $60.
5. Does the calculator include unpaid breaks?
Yes. Unpaid break minutes are subtracted from the full shift span before regular and overtime hours are calculated. This gives a cleaner payroll estimate.
6. What is shift allowance?
Shift allowance is any fixed extra amount added to the shift. You can use it for night premiums, special duty payments, or other flat additions.
7. Can I export the results?
Yes. After calculation, you can download the result as CSV or PDF. That helps with payroll reviews, shift summaries, and record keeping.
8. Are these totals final payroll numbers?
No. They are planning and estimation figures. Taxes, deductions, rounding rules, union agreements, and local labor policies may change final payroll values.
