Falconry Hunting Log Guide
Why Keep Detailed Hunt Records?
A consistent falconry hunting log helps track a bird's condition, field performance, quarry encounters, and seasonal progress. Good records make it easier to compare hunting weight, stamina, recall, and pursuit quality over time. They also create a practical history of where hunts occurred, how long sessions lasted, and what conditions influenced performance. A structured log can be especially useful when several birds are flown during one season or when training goals change.
What Should Be Recorded?
Start with basic falconer and bird information, then add the hunt date, location, weather, terrain, and equipment. Pre-hunt and post-hunt weights can show how workload and feeding affect condition. Flight fields such as slips, duration, distance, pitch, and recall provide measurable performance data. Quarry fields should document sightings, pursuits, captures, releases, and the final outcome. Health notes are useful for recording fatigue, feather damage, injuries, behavior changes, and post-hunt care.
Using Seasonal Statistics
Season totals provide a broad view of activity and consistency. The generator calculates total hunts, slips, captures, capture rate, average hunt duration, and average overall rating. These figures should be interpreted alongside field notes rather than treated as performance targets. Weather, terrain, quarry availability, bird experience, and legal restrictions can all affect the numbers.
Compliance and Privacy
Falconry rules vary by jurisdiction, season, quarry species, and land access requirements. Use the compliance fields as personal reminders, then verify current requirements with the responsible local authority. Sensitive hunting locations can be omitted from shared reports. CSV files are useful for long-term analysis, while PDF reports create clean printable records for personal archives. Review entries after each outing while details remain fresh. Consistent terminology makes year-to-year comparisons easier and clearer. Export records regularly to protect seasonal history. Backups protect details if browser storage clears.
Example Rating and Record Reference
| Field | Example | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Overall rating | 4 / 5 | Summarizes the hunt performance. |

| Pre-hunt weight | 920 g | Tracks working condition before flight. |
| Quarry caught | 1 | Records successful captures. |
| Wind speed | 14 km/h | Adds environmental context to performance. |
Frequently Asked Questions
Where are my records stored?
Records are stored in your browser using local storage. They remain on that browser unless you clear the records or browser data.
Can I edit a saved hunt?
Yes. Choose Edit beside any saved record, update the fields, then save it again.
How is the capture rate calculated?
The tool divides total captures by total slips and multiplies the result by one hundred. It displays zero when no slips are recorded.
Does the tool verify legal hunting seasons?
No. The compliance fields are recordkeeping aids. Falconers should verify current permits, quarry rules, seasons, and land access requirements with the appropriate authority.
What is included in the PDF?
The PDF contains seasonal summary statistics and the currently saved hunt records. Sensitive GPS notes are intentionally excluded from the summary export.
Can I use CSV for spreadsheet analysis?
Yes. The CSV export includes all saved fields and can be opened in common spreadsheet software for sorting, filtering, and further analysis.
