Formula Used

The calculator first changes local birth time into Universal Time. It then uses Julian Day as the core time scale.

Julian Day: JD = Unix time / 86400 + 2440587.5.

Sidereal Time: GMST = 280.46061837 + 360.98564736629 × (JD - 2451545) + correction terms.

Local Sidereal Time: LST = GMST + geographic longitude.

Ascendant: λ = atan2(cos θ, -(sin θ cos ε + tan φ sin ε)). Here θ is LST, ε is obliquity, and φ is latitude.

Midheaven: λ = atan2(sin θ, cos θ cos ε).

House Cusps: The page uses Placidus style quadrant time division with Ascendant and Midheaven anchors. Very high latitudes are limited for stability.

Aspects: Separation = absolute shortest angular distance. Orb = absolute value of separation minus exact aspect angle.

How to Use This Calculator

Enter the birth date, exact time, time zone offset, and daylight saving setting. Add latitude and longitude manually. Choose tropical or sidereal zodiac. Set the aspect orb. Press Calculate Chart. The result appears above the form and below the header. Use CSV or PDF buttons to save the report.

Understanding a Placidus Birth Chart

A Placidus birth chart turns birth data into a sky map. It places planets, signs, angles, and houses around one wheel. Each house describes a life field. The first house begins at the Ascendant. The tenth house begins near the Midheaven. These two angles make the chart personal.

Why Accurate Inputs Matter

Small time changes can move house cusps. A few minutes may shift the Ascendant. The birth place also matters. Latitude changes the shape of the houses. Longitude changes local sidereal time. Use recorded birth time when possible. Use a reliable time zone offset. Add daylight saving only when it applied.

What This Calculator Estimates

This tool builds an educational Placidus style chart. It converts local time into Universal Time. Then it finds Julian Day, sidereal time, ecliptic angles, and planetary longitudes. It also assigns planets to houses. Aspect checks compare angular distances between bodies. The report shows conjunctions, sextiles, squares, trines, and oppositions. Minor aspects can be included.

Reading the Results

Start with the Sun, Moon, and Ascendant. They show identity, feeling, and presentation. Next review the house containing each planet. A planet gains focus through its house topic. The sign shows style. The aspect table shows links between chart factors. A tight orb usually feels stronger than a wide orb.

Using the Data Responsibly

Astrology is symbolic. It should not replace expert advice. The chart can support reflection, writing, and study. It can also help compare different birth times. Export the tables when you need records. Check unusual results with professional software if precision is critical. High latitude births can make Placidus houses unstable. In those cases, compare another house system too.

Practical Study Tips

Read one section at a time. Avoid judging the whole chart from one placement. Note repeated elements, repeated modes, and crowded houses. These patterns often speak louder than isolated details. Keep your notes simple. Return later with fresh eyes.

Why It Fits Analysis

The method is useful for structured review. It separates time, place, and planetary motion. That makes the output easy to audit. Students can compare house changes after editing one input. They can also export rows for spreadsheets, research notes, or client worksheets later use.

FAQs

What is a Placidus birth chart?

It is a natal chart using Placidus house division. The method divides daily motion into houses. It depends strongly on birth time and location.

Does this calculator need exact birth time?

Yes. Exact time improves the Ascendant, Midheaven, and house cusps. A small time error can shift house placements and change interpretation.

Why do I enter latitude and longitude?

House cusps depend on the birth place. Latitude changes the horizon angle. Longitude adjusts local sidereal time for the chart.

What is the time zone offset?

It is the difference from Universal Time. Use positive values east of Greenwich. Use negative values west of Greenwich.

Can I use sidereal zodiac?

Yes. Select sidereal mode and enter an ayanamsa value. The calculator subtracts that value from tropical longitudes for display.

What does aspect orb mean?

Orb is the allowed difference from an exact aspect. A smaller orb gives fewer aspects. A wider orb gives more aspects.

Why are high latitudes limited?

Placidus houses can become unstable near polar regions. The form limits latitude to keep house output usable and easier to review.

Is this a professional ephemeris?

No. It is an educational calculator with approximate planetary routines. Use dedicated astronomy or astrology software when certified precision is required.
