Construction schedules create uneven electrical demand across phases. Excavation may need only site offices and lighting, while structural work adds pumps, hoists, welding, and compressors. Annual kWh helps you compare supply options, validate generator run-time assumptions, and plan fuel, battery, or grid tie capacity. Production inputs from site data

Capacity factor: Capacity factor converts nameplate power into expected output using 8,760 hours per year. For example, 100 kW at 18% yields 157,680 kWh gross before adjustments. If you have measured production, back-calculate capacity factor by CF = (Annual kWh ÷ (Rated kW × 8,760)) × 100 to align the model with site records.

Full-load hours: For engines and hybrid systems, full-load hours often match logbooks better than capacity factor. A 200 kW unit operating 900 equivalent full-load hours produces 180,000 kWh gross. If the unit typically runs at 60% load for 1,500 hours, the equivalent full-load hours are 0.60 × 1,500 = 900. This supports run logs and shift planning.

Losses that matter on construction sites

Dust, heat, long cable runs, temporary panels, and frequent re-routing reduce delivered energy. This calculator applies losses multiplicatively to avoid double counting. A set of 2% conversion, 1.5% wiring, 2% soiling, 3% temperature, and 1% other becomes about 9.25% total loss, not 9.5% by simple addition.

Value and carbon reporting

When you add a tariff, net kWh becomes a budget metric for bids and operating plans. A net 143,000 kWh/year at 0.15 per kWh equals 21,450 in annual value. With a 0.70 kg/kWh emissions factor, the same output corresponds to about 100 tonnes of CO2, useful for ESG reporting.

Interpreting uncertainty and ranges

Weather variability, access constraints, and downtime create spread around any forecast. Using ±5% produces a realistic band: 143,000 kWh becomes 135,850 to 150,150 kWh. Use the low case for contingency sizing and the high case for upside scheduling.

Capacity factor represents average output as a percent of rated power across the year. Full-load hours represent the equivalent number of hours running at rated power. Use the input that matches your measured data or logs.

2) Why are losses applied multiplicatively?

Multiplicative losses prevent double counting when several small losses occur at different stages. Each loss reduces the remaining energy, so the combined effect is realistic for chained components like conversion, wiring, and site conditions.

3) How do I choose availability percentage?

Availability reflects planned outages, breakdowns, and access limits. Start with maintenance and shift plans, then adjust for typical fault rates and spare-parts response time. If you have logs, compute availability as operating hours divided by scheduled hours.

4) Can I use this for generators or hybrid systems?

Yes. Enter rated kW and use full-load hours for engines, gensets, or hybrids. Add conversion and auxiliary losses to represent real delivered energy. For renewables, capacity factor is often easier to source from resource studies.

5) How should I set the CO2 factor?
