Regular studs are based on total wall length, stud spacing, and wall section count. Door and window widths reduce common stud positions. Added studs then cover openings, corners, intersections, and extras.

Why do openings add more studs?

Openings remove some common studs, but they also need support framing. King studs, jack studs, headers, sills, and cripples are added around doors and windows to complete the rough opening.

Does the calculator design structural headers?

No. It estimates header material quantities only. Header size, grade, span capacity, and bearing requirements should come from plans, code tables, or a qualified structural professional.

What does wall sections mean?

Yes. Blocking rows are estimated from stud bays. Window sill stock is estimated from average window width and sill pieces per window. Both are converted into stock boards.

Should I verify the output before ordering?

Yes. Compare the result with drawings, specifications, local code, and supplier stock. Special framing, shear walls, fire blocking, straps, holdowns, and engineered members may require separate takeoffs.
