Occupant load for each area = Ceiling(usable floor area ÷ assigned occupant load factor)

Then add the rounded result for every separate area.

Total planning occupant load = Sum of area loads + fixed seats + bowling lane load + approved additional occupants

The tool rounds each nonzero area result upward. The optional width screen uses total load × entered width factor. It is not a complete means-of-egress analysis.

The total is a planning occupant load. It helps identify the people who may depend on exits, corridors, doors, stairs, and alarm systems. It is not the same as a daily attendance forecast. A center may sell tickets in waves, but life safety design considers the applicable occupant load for each space and route.

5. How are fixed seats counted?

Enter the number of permanent seats directly. The tool adds them to area-based results. Do not also include the same seating area under a conflicting area factor unless local rules specifically require it.

6. Can I use this for bowling lanes?

Yes. Enter the lane count and the verified people-per-lane value. Keep adjacent waiting, dining, and arcade areas on their own lines so that each use remains clear.

7. Does the exit-width result approve my exits?

No. It only compares total load with an entered capacity factor and clear width. It does not review route continuity, exit count, separation, travel distance, door swing, or code exceptions.

Use the factor assigned by the adopted code or approved by the authority having jurisdiction. Describe the attraction clearly in project documents. Keep the calculation record with the plan review package.

9. Should staff areas be included?

Yes, when they contribute to the applicable occupant load or egress demand. Offices, kitchens, storage, and service areas should be considered separately using the verified local classification and factor.
