Ceiling Hanger Calculator

Design hangers confidently with fast load verification. Set spacing, material grade, and safety factors easily. Download results as spreadsheets or printable site-ready reports today.

Inputs

Auto grid estimates hanger count from room size.
Please enter a valid length.
Please enter a valid width.
Typical grid spacing is 0.9–1.5 m.
Distance from wall to first hanger line.
Use when hanger layout is irregular.
Includes ceiling system + distributed services.
Lights, diffusers, small equipment, etc.
Covers unknowns, future adds, or insulation.
Use >1 for vibration, handling, or movement.
Increase for seismic restraint design checks.
Accounts for offsets, sway, and misalignment.
Conservative multiplier for uneven load sharing.
Preset sets Fy unless Custom is chosen.
Typical range: 200–450 MPa.
Reduces effective strength for harsh environments.
Commonly 2.5–4.0 for suspension elements.
Used to check PASS/FAIL against your selection.
Tip: For point loads, also consider local support details and fixings.

Example Data

Length (m) Width (m) Spacing (m) UDL (kg/m²) Point (kg) Extra (kg) Fy (MPa) SF Chosen d (mm)
10.0 8.0 1.2 15 120 60 250 3.0 8
Enter these values, press Calculate, then compare required and chosen diameters.

Formula Used

  • Area: A = L × W
  • Total mass: M = (UDL × A) + Point + Extra
  • Factored force: F = M × g × (Dynamic × Seismic × Eccentricity × Redundancy)
  • Force per hanger: Fh = F ÷ Nh
  • Allowable stress: σallow = (Fy × (1 − Corrosion)) ÷ SF
  • Required area: Areq = Fh ÷ σallow
  • Required diameter: dreq = √(4 × Areq ÷ π)
  • Utilization: U = Fh ÷ (Achosen × σallow)

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Choose Auto grid for regular layouts, or Manual for irregular counts.
  2. Enter room size and spacing (or the manual hanger count).
  3. Enter uniform load and any estimated point loads and allowances.
  4. Set factors to reflect site conditions and design conservatism.
  5. Select a material preset (or Custom) and apply corrosion and safety factor.
  6. Enter your intended rod diameter and run the check.
  7. Use CSV or PDF downloads to share a quick calculation record.
