Cleanup Labor Hours Calculator

Turn site cleanup scope into reliable labor hours. Tune crews, rates, and difficulty factors instantly. See results above, then export formatted reports anytime easily.

Calculator

Enter your scope and assumptions. Defaults are conservative.

Used in exports and internal tracking.
Total gross area to be cleaned.
Later phases usually take more detail time.
Affects baseline complexity.
Higher means faster crew. Use site history when possible.
Dust, film, stickers, packaging, and scrap intensity.
Distance to staging, elevators, and material flow.
Lifts, ladders, and reach limitations increase time.
Accounts for missed rooms, touch-ups, and interruptions.
Added after all other hours are summed.
People actively cleaning (not including supervision).
Shift length used for schedule duration estimate.
Average labor cost per hour for the crew.
Useful for assumptions, exclusions, or coordination items.

Extra tasks (optional)

Add line items like window scraping, pressure washing, or haul-off runs.
Task name Quantity Unit hours Task hours
4.80
3.00
Tip: For recurring items, set quantity to counts, floors, rooms, or trips. Keep unit hours as time per unit.

Example data table

These examples show how productivity and conditions change hours.
Scenario Area Phase Conditions Productivity Crew Estimated hours Estimated days
Small office final clean 8,000 sq ft Final Medium debris, normal access 420 / hr 5 25.4 0.64
Residential rough clean 14,500 sq ft Rough Light debris, easy access 520 / hr 6 25.1 0.52
Industrial turnover polish 30,000 sq ft Turnover Heavy debris, tight access 350 / hr 10 152.6 1.91
Multi-level retail final clean 22,000 sq ft Final Medium debris, multi-level 420 / hr 8 73.9 1.15
High access lobby detailing 6,500 sq ft Turnover Light debris, high access 410 / hr 4 30.2 0.94
Use these as a reasonableness check, then calibrate with your historical data.

Formula used

The calculator estimates labor hours by combining an area-based baseline with condition multipliers and optional task line items.

  • Base Hours = Area ÷ Productivity Rate
  • Condition Factor = Phase × Building × Debris × Access × Height × (1 + Waste %)
  • Adjusted Hours = Base Hours × Condition Factor
  • Pre‑contingency Hours = Adjusted Hours + Extra Task Hours
  • Total Hours = Pre‑contingency Hours × (1 + Contingency %)
  • Duration (days) = Total Hours ÷ (Crew Size × Hours/Day)
  • Labor Cost = Total Hours × Blended Hourly Rate

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the project name and total area to be cleaned.
  2. Select the cleaning phase and building type for baseline complexity.
  3. Set productivity using site history, or click Use typical.
  4. Choose debris, access, and height settings that match field conditions.
  5. Add waste and contingency to reflect coordination and rework risk.
  6. Optionally add extra tasks for unit-based work items.
  7. Click Calculate to view results above the form.
  8. Use Download CSV or Download PDF for reporting.
