Countertop Area Calculator

Measure every run, corner, and return quickly. Choose shapes, subtract cutouts, then add waste smartly. Get square footage and cost estimates in seconds now.

Inputs
Choose a layout, enter dimensions, then press Calculate.
Construction
Use one unit consistently for all lengths.
Pick the closest layout for your plan.
Higher precision helps for bid worksheets.
Area = Length × Depth
Run 1
Run 2
Area = A + B − overlap corner
Left run
Center run
Right run
Subtract both inside-corner overlaps.
Add up to five rectangular sections. Leave unused rows empty.
Section 1
Area = Length × Depth
Section 2
Area = Length × Depth
Section 3
Area = Length × Depth
Section 4
Area = Length × Depth
Section 5
Area = Length × Depth
Cutouts (subtract)
Sink
Cooktop
Other
Enter opening sizes, not fixture sizes.
Add-ons (optional)
Area = length × height
Added area = exposed length × overhang depth
Waste helps cover seams, grain, breakage, and trimming.

Example data table

Scenario Shape Key dimensions Waste Notes
Galley kitchen Rectangle Length 10 ft, Depth 2 ft 10% One sink cutout is common.
Corner kitchen L-shape 8×2 ft + 6×2 ft 12% Subtract corner overlap once.
U kitchen U-shape 5×2 ft, 8×2 ft, 5×2 ft 15% Add backsplash if specified.
Bath vanity Rectangle 5×2 ft 8% Often includes small faucet cutout.
Use the example rows to sanity-check your measurements.

Formula used

  • Rectangle: Area = Length × Depth
  • L-shape: Area = (L1×D1) + (L2×D2) − (D1×D2)
  • U-shape: Area = (Ll×Dl) + (Lc×Dc) + (Lr×Dr) − (Dl×Dc) − (Dr×Dc)
  • Multi-section: Total area = Σ(Lengthᵢ × Depthᵢ)
  • Cutouts: Cutout area = Qty × (Length × Width)
  • Backsplash: Area = Backsplash length × height
  • Overhang: Added area = Exposed edge length × overhang depth
  • Waste: Total with waste = Net area × (1 + Waste%/100)
All calculations convert your inputs to meters internally, then output sq m and sq ft.
