Calculator Inputs
Use realistic factors from vendor data, studies, or project assumptions.
Example Data Table
| Scenario | HRR (MW) | χr | τ | VF | Distance (m) | Heat Flux (kW/m²) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Routine venting | 20 | 0.22 | 0.95 | 1.00 | 120 | 0.023 |
| Peak event | 60 | 0.28 | 0.90 | 0.90 | 150 | 0.048 |
| Shielded receptor | 40 | 0.25 | 0.90 | 0.70 | 100 | 0.050 |
Note: Example numbers are illustrative only. Validate assumptions with project requirements and competent review.
Formula Used
This tool applies a point‑source radiation model to estimate heat flux at a receptor.
q = (HRR × χr × τ × VF) / (4πR²)
- q = heat flux at the receptor (kW/m²)
- HRR = heat release rate (kW)
- χr = radiant fraction (0–1)
- τ = atmospheric transmissivity (0–1)
- VF = view factor / geometric factor (0–1)
- R = distance from source to receptor (m)
