Calculator
Tip: Choose a finish, then adjust layer thicknesses to match your specification.
Example data table
| Finish | Typical thickness (mm) | Common range (mm) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ceramic Tile | 10 | 8–12 | Ranges vary by product, substrate, and detailing. |
| Porcelain Tile | 10 | 8–12 | Ranges vary by product, substrate, and detailing. |
| Natural Stone | 20 | 15–30 | Ranges vary by product, substrate, and detailing. |
| Terrazzo | 16 | 12–25 | Ranges vary by product, substrate, and detailing. |
| Vinyl / LVT | 3 | 2–5 | Ranges vary by product, substrate, and detailing. |
| Carpet Tile | 7 | 5–10 | Ranges vary by product, substrate, and detailing. |
| Engineered Timber | 14 | 10–20 | Ranges vary by product, substrate, and detailing. |
| Laminate | 10 | 8–12 | Ranges vary by product, substrate, and detailing. |
| Epoxy Coating | 2 | 1–4 | Ranges vary by product, substrate, and detailing. |
| Polished Concrete (sealer) | 1 | 1–2 | Ranges vary by product, substrate, and detailing. |
Formula used
1) Known layer thickness
Known = Finish + Adhesive + Underlayment + Membrane
Add any fixed layers you already know from the specification.
2) Required screed / leveling thickness
Required = Target build-up − Known
If this is negative, the build-up is over the target.
3) Screed volume (with wastage)
Volume = Area × (Required/1000) × (1 + Wastage/100)
Thickness converts from mm to meters by dividing by 1000.
4) Compound mass and bags
Mass = Area × Required × Consumption × (1 + Wastage/100)
Bags = ceil(Mass ÷ Bag weight)
Consumption is a datasheet value in kg/mm/m².
How to use this calculator
- Select your unit system and enter the floor area.
- Enter the target build-up from slab to finished surface.
- Choose a finish type and confirm the finish thickness.
- Add adhesive, underlayment, and membrane allowances as needed.
- Set wastage, density, and coverage values from product datasheets.
- Press Calculate to see required leveling thickness and quantities.
- Use the download buttons to export results for sharing.
Notes for practical use
- Screed type, curing, and minimum thickness depend on your project details.
- For step changes, ramps, and drains, confirm slopes separately.
- Always match allowances to approved specifications and shop drawings.
