Input Parameters
Formula Used
The calculator converts all inputs to tonnes (t) and computes a planning-level required crane rating. It adds load components, applies multipliers, then adjusts for derating and hoist sharing.
- Total Lifted Weight (t) = Load + Rigging + Hook
- Factored Load (t) = Total × Dynamic × Safety × Growth × DutyMargin
- Required System Rating (t) = Factored ÷ Derating
- Main Hoist Rating (t) = RequiredSystem × MainShare (if tandem)
- Recommended Standard (t) = Next higher standard capacity
Always confirm final selection using manufacturer capacity charts, runway limits, wheel loads, and governing codes for your project.
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the heaviest powerhouse component you will lift.
- Add realistic rigging and hook block weights.
- Set dynamic, safety, and growth factors for your site.
- Select the duty class closest to operating intensity.
- Apply a derating factor if conditions reduce capacity.
- If tandem lifting, enter the main hoist share percentage.
- Press Calculate and download a CSV or PDF record.
Example Data Table
| Scenario | Load (t) | Rigging (t) | Hook (t) | Dynamic | Safety | Growth | Duty | Derate | Hoists | Main Share | Recommended System (t) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Generator rotor lift | 120 | 6 | 3 | 1.10 | 1.15 | 1.05 | A6 | 1.00 | 1 | 100% | 200 |
| Turbine runner (tandem) | 170 | 8 | 4 | 1.15 | 1.20 | 1.05 | A7 | 0.95 | 2 | 60% | 400 |
| Maintenance gantry lift | 35 | 2 | 1 | 1.08 | 1.10 | 1.00 | A5 | 1.00 | 1 | 100% | 63 |
