Fit Factor Inputs
Example Data Table
| Exercise | Ambient | In-mask | FFi |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal breathing | 8000 | 40 | 200.00 |
| Deep breathing | 8200 | 50 | 164.00 |
| Talking | 8050 | 52 | 154.81 |
| Overall (harmonic mean) | 171.01 | ||
In this example, a half-mask target of 100 would pass.
Formula Used
1) Exercise fit factor
For each exercise, the fit factor is computed as:
FFi = Cout / Cin
Where Cout is ambient concentration and Cin is in-mask concentration.
2) Overall fit factor (harmonic mean method)
When multiple exercises are used, the overall fit factor is calculated as:
Overall FF = N / Σ(1/FFi)
This approach weights lower exercise results more strongly, which is helpful for safety decisions.
