Formula Used
Buffered components = Planned component demand × (1 + safety buffer ÷ 100).
Components to craft = max(0, buffered components − stored components).
Gross ingots = Σ(component recipe ingots × components to craft ÷ assembler efficiency factor).
New ingots needed = max(0, gross ingots ÷ refinery yield factor × (1 − scrap recovery factor) − stored ingots).
Efficiency, yield, and recovery factors use entered percentages divided by 100. Starter recipes are editable in this file.

Material Planning Guide
Plan Complete Builds
Planning materials before building saves refinery time and prevents stalled projects. This calculator converts selected blocks and components into an organised production list. It also shows the ingots needed after inventory, efficiency, yield, recovery, and safety buffer adjustments.
Start with blocks that represent your actual project. Add armour, power, production, storage, and utility blocks. Each selected block expands into its component requirements. You may also add components directly. This helps with repairs, blueprints, and unfinished construction work.
Use the grid setting as a project label. It does not silently change preset recipes. Game versions, mods, and server settings can change those recipes. Review the built in list before committing resources. Update the source presets when your world uses different values.
Reduce Unnecessary Production
Enter components already stored in cargo containers. The calculator consumes those stocks before ordering new components. Add raw ingot inventory too. That stock reduces the refinery target. A safety buffer protects against damaged blocks, conveyor losses, and later design changes.
Assembler efficiency changes the components needed from raw materials. Refinery yield changes how much ore processing produces. Scrap recovery is treated as a credit against new ingots. These controls make planning more realistic for survival worlds. It supports demanding asteroid and planetary campaigns.

The result area separates component demand from new crafting demand. This distinction matters. A large project may need many plates, while your base already has several thousand. The raw ingot section then combines every component recipe into one refinery list.
Export a CSV for spreadsheets, contracts, or shared project boards. Export a PDF for a printable construction checklist. The result also displays assumptions used during calculation. Save the project name with every export. This makes comparisons between versions easier.
Use Presets Carefully
The included blocks are starter presets. They are designed as convenient planning examples. They are not a replacement for your current in game blueprint data. Modded components often need different recipes and materials. Check the preset table and revise it when necessary.
For large ships, split construction into phases. Calculate the frame, systems, and finishing work separately. Deliver ingots and components to each phase. This reduces clutter and reveals shortages earlier. Recalculate after changing quantities or inventory levels. Accurate inputs produce a practical materials plan.

Yes. Choose a starter block preset and enter its quantity. The calculator expands that block into components, then converts components into raw ingot requirements.
2. Can I add direct component needs?
Yes. Set a planned row to Component, select the item, and enter the amount. This is useful for repairs, blueprint finishing, and manual production queues.
3. Are the built in recipes final?
No. They are editable starter presets. Review the recipe arrays near the top of this file and adjust them for your game version, mods, or server rules.
4. What does safety buffer do?
It raises every planned component total before stored components are deducted. Use it to protect a build against damage, layout changes, and minor production losses.
5. How does component inventory work?
Stored components are used first. Enter entries such as Steel Plate=500. The remaining amount becomes the new crafting target.
6. Why add raw ingot inventory?
Raw stock reduces the refinery requirement after component recipes are combined. This avoids processing materials you already have available.
7. What is assembler efficiency?
It is a planning factor that adjusts the raw material input behind crafting. Leave it at 100 percent for normal recipe assumptions.
8. What is refinery yield?
It is a planning factor for refining output. Higher values reduce the theoretical raw input target, while lower values increase it.
9. What does scrap recovery mean?
It applies a percentage credit against new ingot demand. Use zero when no recovered material is expected from dismantling or salvage.
10. Can I export the result?
Yes. Calculate first, then choose CSV for spreadsheet use or PDF for a printable construction checklist.
11. Does grid size change recipes?
Not automatically. The grid selector labels the project. Check or edit preset recipes yourself when small and large grid requirements differ.
