Example Data Table

Profile Weight Activity Deficit Estimated Carbs

Lower carb plan 90 kg Light 20% 115 g/day
Active training plan 75 kg Very active 10% 260 g/day

Formula Used

This calculator first estimates BMR with the Mifflin-St Jeor equation. Male BMR equals 10 × weight kg + 6.25 × height cm - 5 × age + 5. Female BMR equals 10 × weight kg + 6.25 × height cm - 5 × age - 161. TDEE equals BMR multiplied by the activity factor. Target calories equal TDEE minus the selected deficit. Protein calories equal protein grams multiplied by 4. Fat calories equal target calories multiplied by fat percentage. Carb grams equal remaining calories divided by 4. Net carbs equal total carbs minus fiber.

Carbohydrates and Weight Loss Guide

Why Carbs Matter

Carbohydrates are the body’s quick energy source. They support training, walking, work, and daily focus. Cutting them too low can make dieting hard. Eating too many can reduce the calorie gap needed for fat loss. A good plan balances carbs with protein, fat, fiber, and total calories.

Build a Calorie Deficit

Weight loss starts with a steady calorie deficit. This calculator estimates your daily energy needs first. It then removes your chosen deficit. A moderate deficit is easier to follow. It also helps protect strength and muscle. Large deficits may work faster, but hunger often rises.

Protect Protein First

Protein is calculated before carbohydrates. This is useful during weight loss. Protein supports muscle repair and satiety. It can also make meals feel larger. Many active people use higher protein targets. Less active users may choose a lower setting.

Set Fat and Fiber

Fat supports hormones, taste, and meal satisfaction. The calculator assigns fat as a percentage of calories. Fiber is estimated from calories too. Fiber helps digestion and fullness. Net carbs subtract fiber from total carbs. This can help users compare food labels.

Use the Result Daily

Your final carb number is a planning target. It does not need to be perfect every day. Weekly consistency matters more. Spread carbs around workouts when possible. Add more vegetables, fruits, oats, beans, rice, or potatoes. Track progress for two weeks. Then adjust calories or activity if weight stalls.

FAQs

1. How many carbs should I eat to lose weight?

Your target depends on calories, activity, protein, fat, and food preference. This calculator estimates carbs after setting calories, protein, fat, and fiber.

2. Are low carbs required for fat loss?

No. Fat loss mainly needs a calorie deficit. Lower carbs may help some people control hunger, but balanced plans can also work well.

3. What are net carbs?

Net carbs are total carbohydrates minus fiber. Some people track them because fiber has less direct effect on blood sugar and energy intake.

4. Should I eat carbs before workouts?

Many people perform better with carbs before training. A small carb meal can support energy, focus, and workout quality.

5. Why does protein reduce my carb target?

Protein uses calories. When protein calories rise, fewer calories remain for fat and carbohydrates within your daily target.

6. Can I use this calculator for keto?

You can select the lower carb style, but strict keto often needs a specific carb cap. This tool is broader and flexible.

7. How often should I recalculate carbs?

Recalculate after noticeable weight change, activity change, or stalled progress. Many users review targets every two to four weeks.

8. Is this calculator medical advice?

No. It gives an educational estimate. People with medical conditions should speak with a qualified health professional before changing diet.
