Formula Used

A contact lens sits almost on the cornea. Glasses sit several millimeters away. Strong powers must be adjusted for this distance. The calculator uses:

Glasses Meridian Power = Contact Meridian Power / (1 + vertex distance in meters × Contact Meridian Power)

For astigmatism, the calculator converts two principal meridians separately. The first meridian is the sphere. The second meridian is sphere plus cylinder.

M1 = Sphere

M2 = Sphere + Cylinder

After both meridians are converted, the cylinder is rebuilt:

New Cylinder = Converted M2 - Converted M1

The axis is kept unless cylinder notation is transposed. Rounding is then applied using your selected diopter step.
