Conversion Guide for dBm and dBW
Power values in radio work often move between two logarithmic scales. dBm uses one milliwatt as its reference. dBW uses one watt as its reference. The gap is always thirty decibels. That fixed gap makes the conversion fast, but mistakes still happen when many values are copied from test sheets.
Why this calculator helps
This calculator keeps the offset visible. It also shows watts and milliwatts. These extra values help when a design mixes transmitter ratings, antenna data, loss budgets, and equipment limits. A value of 0 dBW equals 1 watt. A value of 30 dBm also equals 1 watt. Both labels describe the same power.
Practical engineering use
Use the tool when checking RF links, amplifier outputs, spectrum analyzer readings, cable loss reports, or wireless system notes. Enter the known value first. Pick the matching input unit. Add a gain or loss adjustment when you want an after-system result. A positive adjustment can represent gain. A negative adjustment can represent cable loss or attenuation.

The base result shows the direct conversion. The adjusted result shows the value after the optional decibel change. The watt result is useful for hardware ratings. The milliwatt result is useful for small signal work. Voltage and current estimates use your impedance entry. They are RMS estimates, so they are best for matched resistive loads.

Accuracy notes
The formulas are exact for power ratios. Real measurement accuracy depends on instruments, calibration, load match, and rounding. Use enough decimal places for design work. Use fewer decimals for field reports. When power is entered in watts or milliwatts, the value must be greater than zero. Logarithms cannot be taken from zero or negative power.
