What This Calculator Does
Elapsed time gives a useful power estimate. It links vehicle weight with track performance. This calculator converts an ET value into horsepower. It also adjusts for drivetrain loss and correction factors. The goal is a practical planning number. It is not a dyno replacement.
Why Weight Matters
Weight is the largest input. A heavier vehicle needs more power to run the same time. Use race weight whenever possible. Include the driver, fuel, tools, and cargo. Small weight errors can change the final horsepower value. That is why accurate scale data improves the estimate.
How ET Affects Power
Elapsed time is measured over a set distance. Most users apply the common quarter mile formula. Lower ET means quicker acceleration. Quicker acceleration needs more horsepower. The formula uses a cubic relationship. That means small ET changes can create large power changes.
Using Correction Options
The correction factor lets you tune the estimate. You can adjust for weather, surface, traction, or setup changes. A value of 1.00 leaves the result unchanged. A value above 1.00 raises the estimate. A value below 1.00 lowers it. Use small changes when data is uncertain.
Wheel and Engine Power
Wheel horsepower is power after drivetrain losses. Engine horsepower is power before those losses. This tool can treat the formula output as either basis. Then it estimates the other value. Drivetrain loss varies by layout, transmission, tire size, and parts condition. Manual cars often lose less power. Automatic or all wheel drive setups may lose more.
Planning Better Runs
