Formula Used

The core quarter mile estimate is:

Horsepower = Weight ÷ (ET ÷ 5.825)3 × Correction Factor

Weight is converted to pounds. Eighth mile ET is multiplied by 1.57. A 1000 feet ET is multiplied by 1.25. These multipliers normalize the value to a quarter mile estimate. If formula output is treated as wheel power, engine horsepower is divided by one minus drivetrain loss. If formula output is treated as engine power, wheel horsepower is multiplied by one minus drivetrain loss.

kW = hp × 0.745699872. Metric hp = hp × 1.013869665. Torque = hp × 5252 ÷ RPM.

Should I enter curb weight or race weight?

Use race weight. Include the driver, fuel, and any carried items. The formula depends heavily on weight, so complete weight improves accuracy.

What correction factor should I use?

Use 1.00 when no correction is needed. Raise it for power-adding assumptions. Lower it for weaker conditions or conservative estimates.

What drivetrain loss value is common?

Many manual layouts use about 10 to 15 percent. Automatics or all wheel drive systems may be higher. Use your own data when available.
