Formula Used

Weighted points = Score × Weight ÷ 100

Known course points = Sum of completed weighted points

Current average = Known course points ÷ Completed weight × 100

Required remaining score = (Target grade − Known course points) ÷ Remaining weight × 100

Projected final grade = Known course points + Remaining weight × Expected remaining average ÷ 100

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter your course name and target grade.
  2. Add each category from your syllabus.
  3. Enter the score earned in each completed category.
  4. Enter each category weight as a percent.
  5. Check completed categories only.

Weighted Grade Planning Guide

Why Weighted Grades Matter

A weighted grade is useful when every task has a different value. A quiz may count little. A final exam may count much more. This calculator joins those parts into one clear grade. It also shows what score is needed on remaining work.

Where This Method Is Used

Weighted grading is common in schools, colleges, courses, and training programs. The method protects important assessments from being treated like small tasks. It also helps students focus effort where it matters most. A category with a higher weight can change the final grade quickly.

Entering Scores Correctly

Use the score field for the mark earned in each category. Use the weight field for the category value in the syllabus. Mark only completed categories when you want a current average. The tool divides earned weighted points by completed weight. That gives a fair current grade.

Planning a Target Grade

You can also plan a target grade. Enter your desired course grade. Then enter a remaining weight, or leave it blank. The calculator can estimate remaining work from incomplete weight. It then finds the score needed to reach the target. This is useful before a final exam.

Reading the Result

The result table gives several helpful values. Weighted points show direct contribution. Completed weight shows how much course work is known. Remaining weight shows how much grade value is still open. Status messages warn when a required score is impossible or already secured.

Saving and Checking

CSV export helps with spreadsheets. PDF export helps with reports, advising, or class records. Keep the values with your syllabus. Recheck the plan when new scores arrive.

Important Notes

Always confirm weights total one hundred percent. Some teachers use points instead of percentages. In that case, convert each item into a weight first. You can also group assignments by category. For example, combine all quizzes before entering the quiz score.

Final Advice

This calculator is a planning aid. It does not replace official grading rules. Some courses drop low scores or add extra credit. Enter adjusted scores when those rules apply. With correct inputs, the weighted grade becomes easy to understand.

Review the output before making choices. Small weights rarely move grades far. Large weights need careful planning. Save each result after every new mark is entered for records later.

FAQs

What is a weighted grade?

A weighted grade combines scores based on their importance. Each category has a weight. Larger weights affect the final grade more than smaller weights.

How do I calculate a weighted grade?

Multiply each score by its weight. Divide by 100. Add all weighted points. For a current average, divide known points by completed weight.

Should all weights total 100 percent?

Yes, most weighted grading systems use 100 percent total weight. If your syllabus uses points, convert points into percentage weights first.

What does completed weight mean?

Completed weight is the total value of categories already graded. It helps find your current average before all course work is finished.

What is required remaining score?

It is the average score needed on future work. It helps you reach the target final grade entered in the calculator.

Can this calculator handle final exams?

Yes. Enter your completed categories first. Then use the final exam weight as the remaining work weight to estimate the required exam score.

Why is my required score above 100 percent?

That means the target grade is not reachable with normal scoring. You may need extra credit, dropped scores, or a lower target.

Can I export my result?

Yes. Use the CSV button for spreadsheet data. Use the PDF button after calculation to save a clean report.
