Total alkalinity buffers pool water against fast pH swings. When it is too high, pH often rises again after each adjustment. Water may look dull. Scale can form on tile, heaters, and fittings. Why The Dose Is Estimated
Pool water is not identical everywhere. Cyanuric acid, borates, temperature, aeration, and test accuracy can change the final response. Acid strength also varies by product. Better Testing Before Treatment
Always test with a reliable kit before adding acid. Enter the current alkalinity in parts per million. Then enter the target value. Many pools work well between 80 and 120 ppm, but equipment, surface, sanitizer, and local guidance may change that range. Do not chase a perfect number without checking pH.
Safe Dosing Method
Add acid slowly with the pump running. Keep the product away from chlorine, metals, and children. Wear eye and skin protection. Never add water into acid. Follow the label. For large corrections, split the treatment into smaller stages. Retest after circulation has mixed the water.

Good Maintenance Habits
