Understanding MW to MWh Conversion
Megawatts measure power. Megawatt hours measure energy. The difference is time. A 10 MW plant does not always produce 10 MWh. It produces 10 MWh only when it runs for one hour at full output. This calculator turns that simple idea into a planning tool.
Why Time Matters
Power is a rate. Energy is the amount delivered over a period. When runtime doubles, energy doubles too. This makes the conversion useful for solar farms, wind projects, battery systems, factories, pumps, and standby generators. You can test one hour, one day, or any custom interval.

Real projects rarely run at perfect output. Capacity factor accounts for partial production. Availability accounts for downtime. Efficiency accounts for conversion limits. Billing and Planning Uses
Many contracts use MWh for billing. Operators may know the MW rating, but they need MWh for invoices, forecasts, and reports. By adding price per MWh, this page estimates revenue or energy cost. By adding an emission factor, it also estimates related carbon impact.

Good Input Practice
Use realistic capacity factors. Enter known outage assumptions. Keep efficiency below one hundred unless there is no conversion loss. Set transmission losses from measured data when possible. Common Errors to Avoid
Do not confuse MW with MWh. MW is instant capacity. MWh is accumulated work. A larger power value can still create less energy if runtime is short. A smaller unit can create more energy if it runs longer. Check the selected time unit before calculating. Minutes and hours produce very different answers. Also keep losses as percentages, not decimals. Enter five for five percent, not 0.05. Check source data carefully.
