Formula Used

  • Gross revenue = order value + shipping charged.
  • Fee base = gross revenue (or item only), based on selection.
  • Platform fee = fee base × platform % + platform fixed.
  • Payment fee = fee base × payment % + payment fixed.
  • Cross-border fee = fee base × cross-border %.
  • Conversion fee = fee base × conversion % (approximation).
  • Duty = duty base × duty %.
  • VAT/GST = VAT base × VAT % (may include duty).
  • Import cost paid by seller = duty + VAT + import fixed fee (only if seller pays).
  • Total fees = platform + payment + cross-border + conversion.
  • Total seller outflow = seller direct costs + total fees.
  • Net profit = gross revenue − total seller outflow.
  • Profit margin % = (net profit ÷ gross revenue) × 100.
  • Estimated payout = gross revenue − total fees − reserve amount.

FAQs

1) What is an international fee in ecommerce?

International fees include marketplace charges, payment processing, cross-border surcharges, and currency conversion costs. Some sellers also include import duties and VAT/GST when offering delivered-duty-paid pricing.

2) Why does the fee base matter?

Many platforms calculate fees on item price plus shipping charged. If you set the wrong base, your estimated fees can be too low or too high, which affects pricing and margins.

3) Does this include customs duty and VAT/GST?

Yes. You can estimate duty and VAT/GST, choose what they are calculated on, and decide whether the seller or customer pays them. If the customer pays, they are excluded from seller outflow.

4) Is the currency conversion fee exact?

It is an approximation. Some providers apply conversion fees on the converted payout amount or on specific transaction components. Use your processor’s statement to set a realistic percentage.

5) What is a reserve or holdback?

A reserve is a temporary portion of your payout withheld for risk control, refunds, or chargebacks. It affects cashflow, but it is not always a permanent cost, so it is shown separately.

6) How do I price DDP shipments with this tool?

Select “Seller pays import taxes,” then enter duty, VAT/GST, and any fixed import fee. The calculator will add those amounts to seller costs, letting you see the price needed to keep margins stable.

7) Can I use it for multiple countries?

Yes. Change the destination label and adjust duty and VAT/GST rates for each country. Keep separate CSV or PDF exports for each market to maintain clear pricing records.

8) What should I do if profit is negative?

Review shipping costs, platform rates, conversion fees, and tax assumptions. Then test higher prices or different shipping methods. Consider switching who pays import taxes or bundling shipping to reduce fee base impact.

Tip: Use realistic fee rates from invoices to improve accuracy.
